Write a d review of literature which demonstrates the need for a service improvement on untimely provision of medication prior to patient discharge in a general ward
There are different types of literature review, acknowledge this without going into details and define what a narrative review is – you are doing a narrative literature review. 1. Write a 3000 word review of literature which demonstrates the need for a service improvement on untimely provision of medication prior to patient discharge in a general ward. 2. It does not need to mention improvement methods such as DMAIC, PDSA and Lean. It is a review of the literature related to untimely provision of medication prior to patient discharge and broad context. 3. Title page (title, name, student number) 4. Introduction and aim of the review (Short, with a confidentiality/ethical issues statement) 5. Problem, context and background literature (Short) This is one set of literature that helps set the scene for the review and defines and analyses key concepts for the reader. 6. The background literature, policies, legislation and ethical issues etc. outline and explain the problem. 7. The literature (Substantial) This is the business part of the review, the biggest single section, where you critically analyse each piece of literature that came out of the search parameters you used and defined in your ‘Search strategy’ section. 8. Discussion (Short) 9. Conclusion (Short) 10. References 11. Bibliography 12. Appendices (Include at least 8 – 10 pieces (articles) of data extraction table) Remember – In the ‘Problem/context’ section breadth and brief in terms of the way you deal with the literature. In ‘The literature’ section, depth and critical analysis in how you deal with each piece of literature. Give preference to good quality material in the main review section, for example research, national guidelines and systematic reviews where available. Inclusion criteria These can include things like: • The number of years you will go back and search e.g. from 2009 through to 2018. • The country of origin of literature e.g. UK and European or UK and North America, or just UK. • Articles that have been published in English. • Research that has been peer reviewed. Below is the feedback I received from my tutor for this subject. I hope it will help! This is a big area in itself. My suggestion would be to focus solely on this, making your Service Improvement Project (SIPS) to be around improving the delivery of medication to aid discharge. So what do we already know about the barriers and solutions from the research? In the ward you are thinking of basing your SIPS, do you know what the issues are in terms of delays in TTOs? What’s been tried? Why doesn’t it work? To link the assignments well, you need a good question to get your teeth into. By the way, it’s a very good idea to link them and in this case, it’s very doable. So be specific about the problem you’re investigating – what do you already know? Have you talked to the staff? Pharmacy? Then investigate the literature for solutions. You should not have difficulty in finding research around this as its a common dilemma. Hope that helps
