English Question

I’m stuck on a English question and need an explanation.

THE STORY IS IN THE ATTACHED DOC – REFERENCE

Topic:

  • The essay must be a review of a story told by a storyteller on the Moth website.

Organization

  • A strong introduction with an intriguing opening that makes clear what you are reviewing and why your audience should care about it.
  • The introduction should contain relevant background information, including the title of the story and relevant information on the storyteller.
  • The title of the story should be format according to MLA format.
  • A strong thesis statement that indicates what will be discussed in your review
  • A body that effectively evaluates your subject using the criteria, reasons, and evidence gathered during study in unit one
  • A conclusion that summarizes your evaluation and leaves the reader with a sense of why they should or should not care about the story.

Rhetorical Situation: Using the skills and information built and gained in unit one consider the following:

  • A body that effectively evaluates your subject using the criteria, reasons, and evidence gathered during study in unit one
  • Think about what your audience knows and expects.
  • Consider your stance
  • Think about the larger context
  • Consider media
  • Consider matters of design

Evaluation: Using the skills and information built and gained in unit one evaluate the following in your essay:

  • Think about your own first impressions
  • Examine the subject closely
  • Make a judgement about your subject
  • Anticipate other points of view

Document Design

  • The piece should be a minimum of 3 FULL pages not including the work cited in the page count.
  • The review should be MLA formatted.
  • The review document should have a work cited at the end of the document on it’s own page within the document.
  • The document MUST be a WORD document (.doc) or (docx). NO OTHER DOCUMENT TYPES WILL BE ACCEPTED AN WILL EARN AN AUTOMATIC F FOR THE PAPER WITH NO CHANCE FOR REVISION.
  • You must include an MLA formatted work cited page with a citation for the story of your choice and include a link to the story you chose (see model in weekly learning content)
  • You should also provide in-text citations anytime you summarize, paraphrase, or directly quote your story or any other resource consulted. This is not a research project, so there is no need for extensive outside research. However, during the course of your review–you might need to consult a resource concerning the storytellers background or for more information on an idea presented in the story.
  • Outside sources are not required, but should you use a source outside the story, the resource must be documented.

Proofreading and Editing

Every effort should be made to proofread and edit the MWA1 essay before submission to the Dropbox. Here are some common errors I see throughout the rough drafts that should be checked for:

  • Using Commas Correctly
  • Tense Shifting
  • Pronoun Usage
  • Quoting, Paraphrasing, or Summarizing Appropriately
  • In-text citations anytime you quote, summarize, or paraphrase
