The
two
concepts
of
civil
disobedience
and
dissent,
while
closely
related,
are
nonetheless
very
distinct
from
one
another.
The
first
reading
for
this
essay
is
a
very
famous
essay
by
19th
Century
American
philosopher,
Henry
David
Thoreau,
who
sets
out
the
case
for
civil
disobedience.
The
second
reading
is
a
discussion
paper
published
by
The
Australia
Institute
in
2004,
in
which
they
discuss
the
(then)
federal
government’s
attempt
to
silence
dissent
of
its
policies.
For
this
essay,
you
are
to
define
the
concepts
of
civil
disobedience
and
dissent,
identify
the
differences
and
similarities
between
them
and
discuss
why
they
are
fundamental
to
democracy.
You
must
